Getting from Agios Efstratios to Astakos

If you are heading to Astakos from Agios Efstratios you are making your way from a small island in the northern Aegean to a port town on the western coast of central Greece, on the opposite side of the country. Astakos sits on a quiet bay surrounded by hills and is the departure point for ferries to Kefalonia and Ithaca.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Astakos. Astakos has no connection to the northern Aegean ferry network. Getting there means taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, which runs 4 times a week in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, flying to Athens and then driving or taking the KTEL bus to Astakos, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours from Athens via the E65 motorway and Agrinio.

Getting there by air

Astakos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then driving to Astakos gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. The nearest airport to Astakos itself is Preveza, around 70 kilometres to the north.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, fly to Athens and drive to Astakos. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens, rent a car and drive northwest to Astakos via the E65 motorway and Agrinio.
