Getting from Agios Efstratios to Lesvos

If you are heading to Lesvos from Agios Efstratios you are making your way to the third largest island in Greece, sitting in the northeastern Aegean between Agios Efstratios and the Turkish coast. It is the birthplace of Sappho, an island of olive groves, ouzo distilleries and a capital at Mytilini with a Byzantine castle and one of the most enjoyable waterfronts in the northern Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is a direct seasonal ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lesvos, operated on the wider mainline route via Lemnos, taking around 3 hours in total to Mytilini. The most reliable approach is to take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then connect to Lesvos from Lemnos, which takes a further 1 to 2 hours. Both legs together keep the journey within the northern Aegean without going through Athens.

Getting there by air

Lesvos has its own airport with daily connections from Athens and Thessaloniki. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos and then flying directly to Lesvos is another option, though a direct Lemnos to Lesvos flight may be limited. Check whether a direct service is available before routing through Athens. Total journey time is around 3 to 4 hours.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos and then connect to Lesvos by ferry from there. It keeps the journey within the northern Aegean and avoids going through Athens entirely. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry connection via Lemnos takes your vehicle directly to Lesvos.
