Getting from Agios Efstratios to Piraeus

If you are heading to Piraeus from Agios Efstratios you are making your way to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network, from where the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens.

There is a seasonal direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Piraeus running a limited number of times a week. However the most reliable and year-round ferry connection from Agios Efstratios to the Athens area goes via Lavrio rather than Piraeus directly, taking around 11 hours 50 minutes and running 2 to 5 times a week. Agios Efstratios is also listed as connected to Piraeus on the wider Seajets and Fast Ferries network on certain routes via Lemnos and other islands, with crossing times varying considerably. Check the current schedule carefully before planning around any direct service.

 

Getting there by air

Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then taking the metro or taxi to Piraeus, which takes around 20 to 45 minutes from Athens Airport, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours and is considerably faster than the direct ferry.

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, fly to Athens and take the metro or taxi to Piraeus. It is considerably faster than any direct sea connection. If you are traveling with a car, the direct overnight ferry from Agios Efstratios via Lavrio is the practical choice as it takes your vehicle directly to the Athens area.
