Getting from Agios Efstratios to Poros

If you are heading to Poros from Agios Efstratios you are making your way from one of the most isolated islands in the northern Aegean to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of Greece. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agios Efstratios to Poros. Poros cannot be reached directly from the Aegean, Dodecanese or northern Aegean ferry network. Getting there means taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, which runs 4 times a week in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes with several daily departures.

Getting there by air

Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Taking the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, flying to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Agios Efstratios to Lemnos, fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens, drive to Galatas on the Peloponnese coast and take the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes and runs constantly throughout the day.
