Getting from Agistri to Igoumenitsa

If you are heading to Igoumenitsa from Agistri you are making your way from a small pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf to a port city on the Epirus coast in the far northwest of Greece, the main departure point for ferries to Corfu, Paxos and Italy.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agistri to Igoumenitsa. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, which takes around 55 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, and then traveling by road northwest to Igoumenitsa, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens by bus or car.

Getting there by air

Igoumenitsa has no airport. The nearest airport is Ioannina, around 83 kilometres to the east, with connections from Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Ioannina, followed by a bus or taxi to Igoumenitsa taking around 1 hour 30 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Agistri to Piraeus and take the KTEL bus northwest to Igoumenitsa, which takes around 6 to 7 hours from Athens Kifissos terminal. If you are traveling with a car, the ferry from Agistri already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive northwest via the Egnatia motorway to Igoumenitsa.
