Getting from Alexandroupoli to Kasos

If you are heading to Kasos from Alexandroupoli you are making your way from the far northeastern corner of Greece to the southernmost island in the Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of the country. It has a maritime history that produced some of Greece's most celebrated sea captains and an authenticity that comes from being almost entirely off the tourist circuit.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alexandroupoli to Kasos. Alexandroupoli's ferry connections are limited to Samothrace, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios and Lavrio. Getting to Kasos by sea means traveling to Piraeus first and boarding the Piraeus to Kasos ferry, which runs 3 times a week and takes around 12 hours. The total journey by sea takes the better part of two days.

Getting there by air

Alexandroupoli has its own airport with connections from Athens. Kasos has a small airport with connections from Athens via Rhodes or Karpathos. Flying from Alexandroupoli to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes and Rhodes to Kasos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. There are no direct flights between Alexandroupoli and Kasos.

Your best option

Fly from Alexandroupoli to Athens and then fly to Rhodes and connect to Kasos by air or local ferry. The Rhodes to Kasos connection runs a few times a week so check the schedule before booking your onward flight. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Alexandroupoli to Piraeus via the Egnatia motorway and E75 and board the overnight Piraeus to Kasos ferry, which takes your vehicle and arrives in around 12 hours.
