Getting from Alexandroupoli to Tinos

If you are heading to Tinos from Alexandroupoli you are making your way from the far northeastern corner of Greece to an island in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the country. It has the most venerated pilgrimage church in Greece and a tradition of extraordinary marble craftsmanship in its interior villages.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Alexandroupoli to Tinos. Alexandroupoli's ferry connections are limited to Samothrace, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios and Lavrio. Getting to Tinos by sea means flying to Athens first and then taking the ferry from Rafina to Tinos, which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours. Rafina is around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport making it a convenient connection without crossing the city to Piraeus.

Getting there by air

Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Flying from Alexandroupoli to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos, followed by the short ferry from Mykonos to Tinos taking around 30 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours.

Your best option

Fly from Alexandroupoli to Athens and take the ferry from Rafina to Tinos. Rafina is a short taxi ride from Athens Airport and avoids crossing the city entirely. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Alexandroupoli to Rafina via the Egnatia motorway and E75 and take the ferry across to Tinos, though the total drive takes around 9 to 10 hours.
