Getting from Antikythera to Agathonisi

If you are heading to Agathonisi from Antikythera you are making your way from one of the most remote islands in Greece to one of the most remote islands in the Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of the country. Both have almost no tourist infrastructure and an atmosphere of complete isolation making the journey a considerable undertaking.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Antikythera to Agathonisi. Antikythera's ferry connections are limited to Kythira, Piraeus, Kissamos in Crete and occasional ports on the southern Peloponnese. Getting to Agathonisi means taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then flying to Leros or Samos, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi, which runs 3 to 5 times a week and takes around 1 to 2 hours.

Getting there by air

Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Leros and Samos. Antikythera has no airport, only a helipad. Taking the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, flying to Athens and then Athens to Leros or Samos, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi, gives a total journey time of around 7 to 8 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Antikythera to Kythira, fly to Athens and then fly to Leros or Samos and take the local ferry across to Agathonisi. Check the ferry schedule before booking your flights as the service runs a limited number of times per week. Build flexibility into your plans as both islands are remote and connections are limited.
