Getting from Astakos to Lefkada

If you are heading to Lefkada from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to a neighbouring island in the Ionian Sea connected to the mainland by a causeway, relatively close in geographic terms. It has some of the finest beaches in Europe on its west coast with sheer white limestone cliffs dropping to turquoise water.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Lefkada. Lefkada is linked to the mainland by a floating bridge and has no main ferry port. Getting there means driving north from Astakos via Agrinio and Amfilochia to Lefkada, which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. It is one of the most natural and direct connections from Astakos given the geographic proximity on the western Greek coast.

Getting there by air

Lefkada has no airport. The nearest airport is Preveza, around 22 kilometres from Lefkada Town. Astakos has no airport either. Driving from Astakos north to Lefkada via Agrinio is considerably more practical than flying for this short connection and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Astakos north to Lefkada via Agrinio and Amfilochia. At around 1.5 to 2 hours it is one of the most effortless connections from Astakos and avoids Athens entirely. The floating bridge connecting Lefkada to the mainland means you drive straight onto the island without needing a ferry at all. It is a genuinely scenic drive up the western Greek coast.
