Getting from Astakos to Patras

If you are heading to Patras from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to the third largest city in Greece on the southern shore of the Gulf of Corinth, the main gateway to the Ionian islands and western Europe. The two are on the same western Greek coast making this one of the most natural connections from Astakos.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Patras. Astakos ferry connections are limited to Kefalonia and Ithaca. Getting to Patras means driving south from Astakos via the Ionian motorway, which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. It is one of the shortest and most direct connections from Astakos and avoids Athens entirely.

Getting there by air

Patras has a small seasonal airport at Araxos, around 40 kilometres from the city, operating limited flights from May to October only. Driving from Astakos south to Patras via the Ionian motorway is considerably more practical than flying for this short connection and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Astakos has no airport either.

Drive from Astakos south to Patras via the Ionian motorway. At around 1.5 to 2 hours it is one of the most effortless connections from Astakos and avoids Athens entirely. From Patras you can take ferries to Kefalonia, Ithaca and Italy, making it a useful hub if you are continuing your journey into the Ionian islands or western Europe.
