Getting from Astakos to Piraeus

If you are heading to Piraeus from Astakos you are making your way from a port town on the western coast of central Greece to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Astakos to Piraeus. Astakos ferry connections are limited to Kefalonia and Ithaca. Getting to Piraeus means driving from Astakos to Athens via the E65 motorway and Agrinio, which takes around 3.5 hours, and then taking the metro or taxi to Piraeus, which takes around 20 to 45 minutes from central Athens.

Getting there by air

Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Astakos has no airport either. Driving from Astakos to Athens and then taking the metro or taxi to Piraeus gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours.

Your best option

Drive from Astakos to Athens via the E65 motorway and then take the metro directly to Piraeus. It is the most practical approach. From Piraeus the metro connects you to central Athens in around 20 minutes and the port gives access to the entire Greek ferry network. If you are traveling with a car, drive from Astakos directly to Piraeus via the E65 motorway and Athens ring road, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours in total.
