Getting from Donoussa to Amorgos

If you are heading to Amorgos from Donoussa you are making your way from one of the Small Cyclades to the most eastern of the Cyclades, in the same island group and relatively close in geographic terms. It has dramatic cliffs, the extraordinary Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built into the cliff face above the sea and an atmosphere that rewards those who make the effort to get there.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Donoussa to Amorgos running on the Small Cyclades Lines and Blue Star routes, taking around 40 to 45 minutes to Aegiali port and running 3 to 7 times a week. It is the most natural and direct connection from Donoussa and keeps the journey entirely within the eastern Cyclades without going through Athens or Piraeus. The Express Skopelitis also serves this route on an almost daily basis in summer.

Getting there by air

Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airports are Naxos and Santorini. Donoussa has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos. The direct ferry connection is considerably more practical than flying for this short island hop within the same island group. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Donoussa to Amorgos. At around 40 to 45 minutes to Aegiali it is one of the shortest and most natural connections from Donoussa. Check the schedule carefully before booking as departure days vary by season. Note that Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, and the road between them takes around 30 minutes so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation. Give Amorgos at least three nights as the island opens up slowly and rewards those who stay long enough to find its rhythm.
