Getting from Donoussa to Santorini

If you are heading to Santorini from Donoussa you are making your way from one of the Small Cyclades to the most iconic island in Greece, in the same island group to the south. It has caldera views, volcanic beaches and the ancient Minoan site of Akrotiri preserved under volcanic ash.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Donoussa to Santorini. Getting there means taking the ferry from Donoussa to Naxos, which runs 4 to 7 times a week and takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes, and then the Naxos to Santorini ferry, which runs several times daily in summer and takes around 2 to 3 hours. This keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids going through Athens or Piraeus. Alternatively take the direct Donoussa to Piraeus ferry and then the Piraeus to Santorini ferry.

Getting there by air

Santorini has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Donoussa has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos. Taking the ferry from Donoussa to Naxos and connecting south through the Cyclades to Santorini is considerably more practical than flying for this island hop within the same island group. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Take the ferry from Donoussa to Naxos and then connect south through the Cyclades to Santorini. It keeps the journey entirely within the Cyclades and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedules carefully before booking as the Donoussa to Naxos connection runs a limited number of times per week. The arrival into the caldera by sea is one of the great island arrivals in Greece. If you are traveling with a car, take the Donoussa to Piraeus ferry and board the conventional Piraeus to Santorini ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Athinios port.
