Getting from Donoussa to Sifnos

If you are heading to Sifnos from Donoussa you are making your way from one of the Small Cyclades to one of the most respected islands in the western Cyclades, on the opposite side of the island group. It is known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Donoussa to Sifnos. Getting there means taking the ferry from Donoussa to Piraeus, which runs around 3 to 6 times a week and takes around 7 to 8 hours, and then taking the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which runs up to 4 times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 hours on the fast boat. Alternatively take the ferry from Donoussa to Naxos and then connect westward through the Cyclades to Sifnos, though this involves multiple changes and is considerably longer.

Getting there by air

Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Donoussa has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos. Taking the ferry from Donoussa to Piraeus and then boarding the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry gives a total journey time of around 10 to 12 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Donoussa to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry. At around 2.5 hours on the fast boat the Piraeus to Sifnos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. Check the Donoussa to Piraeus departure days before planning as the service runs a limited number of times per week. Plan your Piraeus arrival around the Sifnos departure time to avoid a long wait at the port.
