Getting from Elafonisos to Spetses
If you are heading to Spetses from Elafonisos you are making your way from a small island off the southern Peloponnese coast to a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf, relatively close in geographic terms given both sit on the eastern side of the Peloponnese. It has neoclassical mansions around the harbour, a strong nautical tradition and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.
Take the ferry
Elafonisos has no ferry connection to the wider Greek ferry network. The only ferry from Elafonisos is the short 10 minute crossing to Pounta on the southern Peloponnese, which runs every 30 minutes in summer. Getting to Spetses means taking the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and then driving north through the Peloponnese to the mainland port of Kosta, which takes around 2 to 2.5 hours via Sparta and Leonidio, and then taking the short local boat across to Spetses, which takes around 10 minutes and runs frequently. This avoids Athens entirely and is the most natural road connection from the southern Peloponnese to Spetses.
Getting there by air
Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Elafonisos has no airport. Taking the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta, driving north to Kosta and taking the short local boat across to Spetses gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Elafonisos to Pounta and drive north through the Peloponnese to Kosta for the short local boat across to Spetses. It avoids Athens entirely and is the most natural and direct approach. Note that Spetses is car-free so no vehicles can be taken to the island. Having a car is helpful for the drive to Kosta but it stays on the mainland.
