Getting from Spetses to Dokos

If you are heading to Dokos from Spetses you are making your way from a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf to an uninhabited rocky island between Hydra and the Peloponnese coast, in the same part of Greece. The waters around it hold the oldest known shipwreck in the world, dating to around 2700 BC.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Spetses to Dokos. Dokos is accessible only by water taxi from Hydra, taking around 30 minutes. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Hydra, which takes around 30 to 60 minutes and runs several times daily as part of the Saronic island circuit, and then arranging a water taxi from Hydra harbour across to Dokos. Pre-arrange your water taxi before leaving Hydra as you cannot hail a boat once you are on the island.

Getting there by air

Dokos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is also Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Hydra and then a water taxi to Dokos gives a total journey time of around 1 to 2 hours and is the most natural approach from Spetses. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Spetses to Hydra and arrange a water taxi from the harbour across to Dokos. It is the most natural and direct approach given the two islands sit in the same part of the Saronic Gulf. Pre-arrange your water taxi before leaving Hydra as you cannot hail a boat once you are on the island. Come entirely self-sufficient as there is nothing on Dokos. Note that both Spetses and Hydra are car-free so the journey is straightforward for foot passengers.
