Getting from Syros to Lipsi
If you are heading to Lipsi from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to a small island in the northern Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has a pretty harbour village, uncrowded beaches and an atmosphere of complete calm.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Syros to Lipsi. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, which runs up to 6 daily crossings in summer and takes around 2 hours on the fast boat, and then boarding the overnight Piraeus to Lipsi ferry, which runs around 3 times a week and takes around 9 to 10 hours. Alternatively fly from Athens to Leros and take the short ferry from Leros to Lipsi, which takes around 20 to 40 minutes.
Getting there by air
Lipsi has no airport. The nearest airport is Leros. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, flying from Athens to Leros and then taking the short ferry from Leros to Lipsi gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and fly from Athens to Leros, then take the short ferry across to Lipsi. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and board the overnight Piraeus to Lipsi ferry, which takes your vehicle and arrives in the morning.
