Getting from Syros to Milos

If you are heading to Milos from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to one of the most visually striking islands in the western part of the same group. It has a volcanic coastline of white and ochre rock formations and beaches that look like nowhere else in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Syros to Milos. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, which runs up to 6 daily crossings in summer and takes around 2 hours on the fast boat, and then boarding the Piraeus to Milos ferry, which runs several times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 to 3.5 hours on the fast boat. This is the most practical sea approach as there is no direct inter-island connection between Syros and the western Cyclades that avoids Piraeus.

Getting there by air

Milos has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and flying from Athens to Milos takes around 40 to 45 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and fly from Athens to Milos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and board the conventional Piraeus to Milos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to Adamas port.
