Getting from Syros to Piraeus

If you are heading to Piraeus from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Syros to Piraeus running up to 6 times daily in summer, taking around 2 hours on the fast boat and around 3.5 to 4 hours on the conventional ferry. It is one of the most well served Cyclades to Athens connections given Syros's position as the administrative capital of the island group. Blue Star Ferries runs the conventional crossing and Seajets runs the high speed service. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens.

Getting there by air

Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. The direct ferry from Syros to Piraeus is considerably more practical than flying for this connection given the frequency and directness of the sea route.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry from Syros to Piraeus. With up to 6 daily departures in summer it is the most natural and direct approach. Check the schedule before booking as departure times vary by season. If you are traveling with a car the conventional Blue Star ferry takes your vehicle directly to the port. From Piraeus the metro connects you directly to central Athens in around 20 minutes.
