Getting from Syros to Rafina

If you are heading to Rafina from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to the second most important ferry port serving Athens, on the northeastern Attica coast around 20 kilometres from Athens Airport. It is the departure point for ferries to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos and several northern Cycladic islands.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Syros to Rafina running several times daily in summer, taking around 3 to 4 hours. It is one of the most natural connections from Syros to the Attica coast and avoids Piraeus and central Athens entirely. Rafina sits just 20 kilometres from Athens Airport making it a highly convenient arrival point for onward connections to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos and the northern Cyclades.

Getting there by air

Rafina has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 20 kilometres to the west. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. The direct ferry from Syros to Rafina is considerably more practical than flying for this connection given the frequency and directness of the sea route.
