Getting from Syros to Sifnos
If you are heading to Sifnos from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to one of the most respected islands in the same group, to the southwest. It is known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Syros to Sifnos. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, which runs up to 6 daily crossings in summer and takes around 2 hours on the fast boat, and then boarding the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which runs up to 4 times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 hours on the fast boat. This is the most practical sea approach as there is no direct inter-island connection between Syros and the western Cyclades that avoids Piraeus.
Getting there by air
Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and boarding the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry. At around 2.5 hours on the fast boat the Piraeus to Sifnos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. Plan your Syros departure around the Sifnos ferry schedule to avoid a long wait at Piraeus. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional Piraeus to Sifnos ferry takes your vehicle directly to Kamares port.
