Getting from Syros to Tilos
If you are heading to Tilos from Syros you are making your way from the capital of the Cyclades to an island in the Dodecanese group, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It is the first island in the Mediterranean to run entirely on renewable energy with good walking trails and a wild coastline.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Syros to Tilos. Getting there by sea means taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, which runs up to 6 daily crossings in summer and takes around 2 hours on the fast boat, and then boarding the overnight Piraeus to Tilos ferry, or flying from Athens to Rhodes or Kos and taking the local ferry to Tilos, which takes around 1 hour 40 minutes to 3 hours 50 minutes from Rhodes and around 1 hour 5 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes from Kos.
Getting there by air
Tilos has no airport. The nearest airports are Rhodes and Kos. Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Taking the ferry from Syros to Piraeus, flying from Athens to Rhodes and then taking the local ferry from Rhodes to Tilos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and fly from Athens to Rhodes, then take the local ferry across to Tilos. Check the Rhodes to Tilos schedule before booking your flights as the service does not run daily. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Syros to Piraeus and board the overnight Piraeus to Tilos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the island.
