Getting from Telendos to Amorgos
If you are heading to Amorgos from Telendos you are making your way from a tiny car-free island off the western coast of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese to the most eastern of the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has dramatic cliffs, the extraordinary Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa built into the cliff face above the sea and an atmosphere that rewards those who make the effort to get there.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Telendos to Amorgos. Getting there means taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties on Kalymnos, which takes around 5 minutes, and then making your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the Blue Star ferry west to Amorgos, which runs several times a week. Alternatively fly from Kalymnos to Athens and take the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5 to 9 hours. Amorgos has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali, so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation as the road between them takes around 30 minutes.
Getting there by air
Amorgos has no airport. The nearest airports are Naxos and Santorini. Telendos has no airport. The nearest airports are Kalymnos and Kos. Taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties, flying from Kalymnos to Athens and then taking the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry gives a total journey time of around 8 to 12 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the local boat from Telendos to Myrties and make your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the Blue Star ferry west to Amorgos. It keeps the journey within the Dodecanese and Cyclades network and avoids Athens entirely. Check the schedule carefully before booking as departure days vary by season. Give Amorgos at least three nights. The island opens up slowly and rewards those who stay long enough to find its rhythm. If you prefer to fly, take the local boat to Myrties and fly from Kalymnos to Athens then take the Piraeus to Amorgos ferry.
