Getting from Telendos to Kos

If you are heading to Kos from Telendos you are making your way from a tiny car-free island off the western coast of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese to one of the most popular islands in the same group, just a short distance to the south. It is the birthplace of Hippocrates, with good beaches, a lively town and ancient ruins that are among the finest in the eastern Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry connection from Telendos to Kos via the Dodecanese network. Getting there means taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties on Kalymnos, which takes around 5 minutes, and then making your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the ferry south to Kos, which takes around 30 to 45 minutes and runs multiple times daily. This keeps the journey entirely within the Dodecanese and avoids Athens entirely. Alternatively the short ferry from Mastichari on Kalymnos to Kos takes around 30 minutes and also runs frequently.

Getting there by air

Kos has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Telendos has no airport. The direct ferry connection via Kalymnos is considerably more practical than flying for this short within-Dodecanese hop.

Your best option

Take the local boat from Telendos to Myrties and make your way to Kalymnos port at Pothia for the short ferry south to Kos. At around 30 to 45 minutes from Pothia it is one of the most natural connections in the southern Dodecanese. The total journey from Telendos to Kos including the local boat and taxi across Kalymnos takes around 1 to 1.5 hours. If you are traveling with a car, note that no cars are permitted on Telendos so your vehicle would already be on Kalymnos, from where the ferry takes it directly to Kos.
