Getting from Telendos to Piraeus

If you are heading to Piraeus from Telendos you are making your way from a tiny car-free island off the western coast of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network.

Take the ferry

There is a direct overnight ferry from Kalymnos to Piraeus running via several Dodecanese islands and taking around 10 to 12 hours. Getting there means taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties on Kalymnos, which takes around 5 minutes, and then transferring by taxi to Kalymnos port at Pothia, which takes around 20 to 30 minutes, for the overnight Blue Star ferry to Piraeus. The service runs around 5 times a week and is the main sea connection from the Kalymnos area to the Greek mainland.

Getting there by air

Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Telendos has no airport. The nearest airports are Kalymnos and Kos. Taking the local boat from Telendos to Myrties, flying from Kalymnos to Athens and then taking the metro directly to Piraeus, which takes around 20 minutes from central Athens, gives a total journey time of around 3 to 4 hours and is considerably faster than the overnight ferry for most travelers who do not need to take a vehicle.

Your best option

Take the local boat from Telendos to Myrties and fly from Kalymnos to Athens, then take the metro directly to Piraeus. At around 3 to 4 hours total it is the fastest and most practical approach for foot passengers. If you are traveling with a car, note that no cars are permitted on Telendos so your vehicle would already be on Kalymnos, from where you can take the direct overnight Blue Star ferry to Piraeus, which takes your vehicle and arrives in the morning with the day ahead.
