Getting from Thassos to Lefkada
If you are heading to Lefkada from Thassos you are making your way from the northernmost island in Greece to an island in the Ionian Sea connected to the mainland by a causeway, on the opposite side of the country. It has some of the finest beaches in Europe on its west coast with sheer white limestone cliffs dropping to turquoise water.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Thassos to Lefkada. Lefkada has no main ferry port as it is linked to the mainland by a floating bridge. Getting there means taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, which runs almost hourly in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then driving west via the Egnatia motorway and Ioannina to Preveza and Lefkada, which takes around 5 to 5.5 hours from Kavala. This avoids Athens entirely and is the most natural cross-country approach.
Getting there by air
Lefkada has no airport. The nearest airport is Preveza, around 22 kilometres from Lefkada Town. Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala. Taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and driving west via the Egnatia motorway to Lefkada gives a total journey time of around 6.5 to 7 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
