Getting from Thassos to Skiathos
If you are heading to Skiathos from Thassos you are making your way from the northernmost island in Greece to the most cosmopolitan of the Sporades group, both sitting in the northern Aegean but on opposite sides of the country's northern ferry network. Skiathos has a lush green coastline, an international airport and some of the finest sandy beaches in the northern Aegean.
Take the ferry
There is a seasonal direct ferry from Thessaloniki to Skiathos operated by Seajets running from June to September, taking around 3 hours 10 minutes and running 3 to 5 days per week. Getting there from Thassos means taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, which runs almost hourly in summer and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, and then driving or taking the bus to Thessaloniki, which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, for the seasonal Seajets departure to Skiathos. This keeps the journey entirely in northern Greece and avoids Athens entirely. Alternatively drive from Kavala to Volos, which takes around 2.5 hours, and take the direct Volos to Skiathos ferry, which takes around 1 hour 15 minutes on the fast boat and runs daily year-round.
Getting there by air
Skiathos has its own international airport with connections from Athens and seasonal direct flights from Thessaloniki in summer. Thassos has no airport. Taking the ferry from Thassos to Kavala, flying from Kavala to Athens and then Athens to Skiathos gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. When the direct Thessaloniki to Skiathos flight is running, take the ferry to Kavala, drive to Thessaloniki and fly directly to Skiathos.
Your best option
Take the ferry from Thassos to Kavala and drive to Volos for the direct ferry to Skiathos. At around 5 to 6 hours total it avoids Athens entirely and is the most natural northern Greece approach. The Volos to Skiathos fast boat takes around 1 hour 15 minutes and runs daily. If you are traveling in summer, the seasonal Seajets service from Thessaloniki to Skiathos is another excellent option that avoids the Volos detour entirely. Note that as of 2026 there are no departures from Agios Konstantinos to Skiathos.
