Getting from Volos to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Volos you are making your way from a city on the Pagasetic Gulf at the foot of the Pelion peninsula to the capital of Greece and the gateway to everything it connects to, a straightforward journey along one of the busiest road corridors in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no ferry from Volos to Athens. Both are on the mainland and connected only by road. Getting there means driving from Volos south via the E75 motorway to Athens, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours. Alternatively take the KTEL bus from Volos to Athens, which departs several times daily and takes around 3.5 to 4 hours.

Getting there by air

Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos, around 20 kilometres from the city, with limited connections from Athens. Athens has an international airport. The drive or bus from Volos to Athens is considerably more practical than flying for this connection given the frequency and directness of the road link.

Your best option

Drive from Volos to Athens via the E75 motorway. At around 3 to 3.5 hours it is the most direct and practical approach. If you are traveling without a car, the KTEL bus from Volos bus station to Athens Liosion terminal runs several times daily and takes around 3.5 to 4 hours. From Athens you have access to the full flight and ferry network for onward connections across Greece.
