Getting from Volos to Nafplio

If you are heading to Nafplio from Volos you are making your way from a city on the Pagasetic Gulf at the foot of the Pelion peninsula to a neoclassical town on the Argolic Gulf in the Peloponnese, the first capital of modern Greece with the Venetian fortress of Palamidi above it and Mycenae, Epidaurus and Tiryns all within easy reach.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Volos to Nafplio. Nafplio is accessible only by road. Getting there means driving from Volos south via the E75 motorway to Athens and then continuing south through the Peloponnese via Corinth to Nafplio, which takes around 5 to 5.5 hours from Volos in total.

Getting there by air

Nafplio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos with limited connections from Athens. Driving from Volos south to Nafplio via Athens and Corinth gives a total journey time of around 5 to 5.5 hours. The KTEL bus from Volos to Athens and then from Athens Kifissos terminal to Nafplio is an alternative but involves a change and takes considerably longer. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Volos south via the E75 motorway and Athens ring road through the Peloponnese to Nafplio via Corinth. Having a car makes this route straightforward. Nafplio rewards at least two nights and is an excellent base for exploring Mycenae, Epidaurus and Tiryns, all within easy reach by car.
