Getting from Volos to Parga

If you are heading to Parga from Volos you are making your way from a city on the Pagasetic Gulf at the foot of the Pelion peninsula to a Venetian-built harbour town on the Epirus coast, on the opposite side of Greece. It faces the Ionian Sea with good beaches and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Volos to Parga. Parga is a mainland coastal town accessible only by road. Getting there means driving from Volos west across central Greece to Parga, which takes around 3.5 to 4 hours via Trikala, Ioannina and Preveza. This avoids Athens entirely and is the most natural cross-country road connection between the two given their shared position in central and western Greece.

Getting there by air

Parga has no airport. The nearest airports are Preveza, around 65 kilometres south, and Ioannina, around 103 kilometres east. Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos with limited connections from Athens. Driving from Volos west to Parga via Trikala and Ioannina gives a total journey time of around 3.5 to 4 hours and avoids Athens entirely. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Volos west to Parga via Trikala, Ioannina and Preveza. At around 3.5 to 4 hours it avoids Athens entirely and is the most direct and natural road approach. Having a car makes this route straightforward and the drive through central Greece and Epirus via Ioannina is a scenic one.
