Getting from Volos to Skiathos
If you are heading to Skiathos from Volos you are making your way from the main mainland departure point for the Sporades to the most cosmopolitan island in the same group, just a short distance away across the water. It has a lush green coastline, an international airport and some of the finest sandy beaches in the northern Aegean.
Take the ferry
There is a direct ferry from Volos to Skiathos running daily in summer, taking around 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the vessel. It is the most natural and direct connection from Volos and keeps the journey entirely within the Sporades network without going through Athens. The service runs year-round with reduced frequency in winter. Volos is the main gateway to the Sporades and the ferry connection to Skiathos is well established, frequent and reliable.
Getting there by air
Skiathos has its own international airport with daily connections from Athens. Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos with limited connections from Athens. Flying from Volos to Athens and then Athens to Skiathos takes around 40 minutes on the second leg but is considerably less practical than the direct ferry from Volos port given the short crossing time. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the direct ferry from Volos to Skiathos. It is the most natural and direct connection and keeps the journey entirely within the Sporades network. Check the schedule before traveling as departure times vary by season. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Volos takes your vehicle directly to Skiathos port.
