Getting from Volos to Skopelos
If you are heading to Skopelos from Volos you are making your way from the main mainland departure point for the Sporades to an island in the same group, just a short distance away. It has a densely forested coastline, a Chora of white houses and slate roofs climbing steeply above the port and over 120 churches.
Take the ferry
There is a direct ferry from Volos to Skopelos running daily in summer, taking around 3 to 4 hours to Skopelos Town and around 2.5 to 3 hours to Glossa, the island's northern port. It is the most natural and direct connection from Volos and keeps the journey entirely within the Sporades network without going through Athens. The service runs year-round with reduced frequency in winter. Volos is the main gateway to the Sporades and the ferry connection is well established and reliable.
Getting there by air
Skopelos has no airport. The nearest airport is Skiathos, with connections from Athens. Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos with limited connections from Athens. Flying from Volos to Athens and then Athens to Skiathos, followed by the short ferry from Skiathos to Skopelos taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours and is considerably less practical than the direct ferry from Volos port.
Your best option
Take the direct ferry from Volos to Skopelos. It is the most natural and direct connection and keeps the journey entirely within the Sporades network. Check the schedule before traveling as departure times vary by season. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional ferry from Volos takes your vehicle directly to Skopelos port.
