Getting from Volos to Tinos

If you are heading to Tinos from Volos you are making your way from a city on the Pagasetic Gulf at the foot of the Pelion peninsula to an island in the central Cyclades with the most venerated pilgrimage church in Greece and a tradition of extraordinary marble craftsmanship in its interior villages.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Volos to Tinos. Volos is the main departure point for the Sporades group and has no connection to the Cyclades ferry network. Getting there by sea means driving from Volos to Piraeus, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via the E75 motorway, and then taking the Piraeus to Tinos ferry, which runs up to 2 daily crossings and takes around 2.5 to 4.5 hours. Alternatively drive to Athens and take a taxi to Rafina, around 25 kilometres from Athens Airport, for the ferry to Tinos which runs up to 12 times daily in summer and takes around 2 hours.

Getting there by air

Tinos has no airport. The nearest airport is Mykonos. Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos, around 20 kilometres from the city, with limited connections from Athens. Flying from Volos to Athens and then Athens to Mykonos, followed by the short ferry from Mykonos to Tinos taking around 30 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Volos to Rafina and take the ferry across to Tinos. Rafina is around 3.5 to 4 hours from Volos via the E75 motorway and Athens ring road and the ferry runs up to 12 times daily in summer avoiding the need to go all the way to Piraeus. If you are traveling with a car, drive to Piraeus for the conventional Piraeus to Tinos ferry, which takes your vehicle directly to the port.
