Getting from Zakynthos to Athens

If you are heading to Athens from Zakynthos you are making your way to the capital of Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Zakynthos to Athens. The ferry connection goes via Kyllini on the northwestern Peloponnese, with the crossing taking around 1 hour 15 minutes. From Kyllini the drive to Athens takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via the E65 motorway and Patras. The KTEL bus also runs directly from Zakynthos to Athens combining the ferry and the road journey, taking around 6 hours in total.

Getting there by air

Both Zakynthos and Athens have airports. Daily flights connect the two with the journey taking around 50 minutes. This is the fastest and most practical approach for most travellers.

Your best option

Fly from Zakynthos to Athens. The 50-minute flight is the obvious choice. If you are travelling with a car, take the ferry to Kyllini and drive to Athens from there, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via the E65 motorway.
