Getting from Zakynthos to Poros
If you are heading to Poros from Zakynthos you are making your way from one of the most beautiful of the Ionian islands to a small island in the Saronic Gulf, on the opposite side of Greece. Poros sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Zakynthos to Poros. Getting there means taking the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and then driving northeast through the Peloponnese to Galatas, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via Patras and Corinth, and then taking the short local ferry across to Poros, which takes only a few minutes and runs constantly throughout the day. This avoids Athens entirely and is a natural road connection across the Peloponnese.
Getting there by air
Poros has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Zakynthos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Zakynthos to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros, which takes around 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes with several daily departures, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly from Zakynthos to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the ferry from Zakynthos to Kyllini and drive northeast through the Peloponnese to Galatas, then take the short local ferry across to Poros, which avoids Athens entirely.
