About the Beach
Fodele Beach is a wide and impressive coastal bay situated at the end of a lush valley filled with orange and lemon groves on the northern coast of Crete featuring a landscape of sand and shingles that is split by the mouth of a small river in an environment that is famously known as the birthplace of the painter El Greco where the surrounding geography is defined by high rugged mountains and a sense of total enclosure providing a powerful and primitive natural atmosphere that remains largely unorganized except for the area directly in front of the local resorts allowing the raw beauty of the western Heraklion coastline and its rich artistic history to remain the central focus of the visit.
