About the Beach

Potamos Beach is a pristine and wide coastal sanctuary located at the eastern end of the Malia gulf near the archaeological site of the Minoan palace featuring a landscape of fine golden sand and natural dunes that are protected by the local environmental authorities in a largely unorganized and primitive environment providing a sense of natural grandeur and silence that contrasts sharply with the nearby bustling resorts where the shallow turquoise waters and the absence of dense development offer a raw and beautiful connection to the ancient landscape of the Cretan coast allowing visitors to experience the shoreline much as it appeared during the height of the Minoan civilization.
