Debbie Matenopoulos has her eye on a new job, and it comes with an embassy. The Greek American TV host, best known as one of the original panelists on The View, posted an Instagram video this week pitching herself as the next US Ambassador to Greece, as TV Insider reported.

The timing is not random. Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned from the post on Tuesday, October 13, after the White House asked her to step down amid misconduct allegations, according to ABC News. Guilfoyle has denied the allegations. Within days, Matenopoulos was making her case.

She also dressed for the part. In the video she wears a polo with the Greek flag and the word "Greece" on it, then gets straight to the point. "Number one, I speak the language. It's my first language before I even spoke English," she said. "Number two, I have a Greek passport."

The Greek credentials keep coming. She holds both Greek and American passports, and she said that apart from her immediate family, her entire family lives in Greece. She was the first person in her family to be born in America.

She also says she owns homes in Greece and spends time there every single summer. "I understand the politics, I understand the government, I understand the people. I have many connections. And I love the country," she said.

Then came the résumé. Matenopoulos pointed to her two best-selling Greek cookbooks and her Greek skincare line, and Greek City Times notes that her caption also lists a journalism degree from New York University and 30 years in live television. Food diplomacy is a real thing, and Greek food rarely loses an argument.

She was careful to say she meant "no disrespect" to Guilfoyle. She also had a point about how the job actually works. "You don't need any qualifications, really, to be a U.S. Ambassador to any country," she said, explaining that ambassadors are appointed by the president and approved by the US Senate.

Is this a serious bid? She seems to think so. She told Page Six that friends had already reached out to President Donald Trump on her behalf, as Greek City Times reported, adding, "This is not about a political party or an administration for that matter."

The quote everyone will remember came near the end. "I basically scream from the rooftops, 'I am Greek, hear me roar. Our country is the best,'" she said, before adding that she does the same for America because she is Greek American.

The ambassador's office is at the US Embassy in Athens, and Matenopoulos clearly would not need a guidebook. She closed her video with a plea to the president, the Senate and the people of both countries: "Please let me represent you as your new U.S. Ambassador to Greece."

Plenty of Greek Americans dream about moving back for the right job. Debbie Matenopoulos is just the first one to apply for the one with the flag outside.
