About the Embassy of Greece in Berlin

The Embassy of Greece in Berlin represents the Hellenic Republic in Germany, overseeing diplomatic, consular, and economic relations between the two countries. It works alongside Greece's five Consulates General in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart, which together serve one of the largest Greek diaspora populations in the world. Greek Community in Berlin, Germany

Germany is home to one of the largest Greek communities outside Greece, with immigration beginning in earnest in the 1960s and 1970s through West Germany's guest worker (Gastarbeiter) program, which recruited large numbers of Greek workers to fill labor shortages. Berlin's own Greek community grew substantially during this period and remains active today, with Greek Orthodox parishes, cultural associations, and Greek-language schools serving both longtime residents and more recent arrivals, including many young professionals who moved to Germany following Greece's economic crisis in the 2010s. Population estimates for Greeks and people of Greek descent across Germany as a whole range from 300,000 to over 400,000, making it one of the largest Greek diaspora populations in the world, with Berlin representing a meaningful share of that total.
