About the Embassy of Greece in Tirana
The Embassy of Greece in Tirana represents the Hellenic Republic in Albania, overseeing diplomatic, consular, and economic relations between the two countries. It supervises Greece's two Consulates General in the country, located in Gjirokastër and Korçë, which primarily serve the ethnic Greek community in southern Albania. The embassy provides passport, visa, notarial, civil registry, and citizenship services, and supports political, cultural, and commercial ties between Greece and Albania.
Greek Community in Tirana, Albania
Albania is home to one of the largest Greek minority populations in the world, concentrated mainly in the southern region historically known as Northern Epirus (Gjirokastër, Sarandë, Himarë, Delvinë, and surrounding areas). Estimates of the community's size vary widely, from official Albanian census figures in the low tens of thousands to Greek government and diaspora estimates in the low hundreds of thousands, reflecting long standing disagreement over how the minority is counted. This is the main reason Greece maintains two full consulates in the south of the country rather than routing everything through Tirana.
