About The Event
The New Cretan Quartet (Νέο Κρητικό Κουαρτέτο) performs at Thessaloniki Concert Hall, in the Aimilios Riadis Hall (M2), on Wednesday 2 December 2026 at 8:30 PM, as part of the 5th International Chamber Music Festival. Founded in 2018 by members of the Heraklion Municipal Youth Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of violinist Georgios Demertzis, the ensemble has a special interest in Greek music and especially the work of Cretan composers. The programme pairs Ravel's String Quartet in F major, completed in 1903 and dedicated to Gabriel Fauré, with Nikos Skalkottas's String Quartet No. 3, a dense twelve-tone work written in Athens in 1935. The quartet is Georgios Alexandros Chliavoras and Giorgos Daskalakis (violins), Stefanos Aristos Symeonidis (viola) and Konstantinos Spyridakis (cello).
