Εορταστικές εκδηλώσεις των εθνικών επετείων της 26ης Οκτωβρίου 1912 και της 28ης Οκτωβρίου 1940 στην Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Θεσσαλονίκης

The official programme of the Region of Central Macedonia for the national anniversaries of 26 October 1912, the liberation of Thessaloniki and feast of its patron Saint Demetrios, and 28 October 1940 (OXI Day). The city is decorated with flags from 8:00 AM on Sunday 25 October. That day at 11:30 AM the icons of Panagia Chozoviotissa and Saint Demetrios, with his holy relics, are carried in procession through Agiou Dimitriou, Venizelou, Egnatia and Agias Sofias streets. On Monday 26 October the flag is raised at the White Tower at 8:00 AM with a 21-gun salute, and at 11:00 AM a doxology for the liberation of the city is held at the Church of Saint Demetrios, led by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas. At 7:00 PM the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki holds its official celebration, with a keynote by Sir Roderick Beaton titled 'From Saint Demetrios to Metaxas's OXI' (by invitation). On Tuesday 27 October students lay wreaths and march along Tsimiski Street at 11:00 AM. On Wednesday 28 October, after a memorial service and wreath laying by the President at 10:15 AM, the big parade of military, student and civic groups runs along Megalou Alexandrou Avenue from Georgiou Papandreou Street to the White Tower at 11:00 AM. The flag is lowered at the White Tower at 5:30 PM.
