Melbourne, Australia
About The Event
On Wednesday 28 October 2026, from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, the Returned and Services League of Australia, Hellenic Sub-Branch holds a wreath laying in the Sanctuary of Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance to honour the service and sacrifice of Greek-Australian servicemen and women. Greek-Australians have served in the nation's Armed Forces since the start of the 20th century, and the Hellenic Sub-Branch of the RSL was founded in the 1970s to promote the contribution of Hellenes to the Australian war effort in the First World War, the Second World War and the Vietnam War. The service falls on OXI Day, the anniversary of Greece's refusal on 28 October 1940 to let Italian troops cross its borders, which began Greece's involvement in the Second World War. Admission is free, and the venue is wheelchair accessible. The Shrine's talk Holding the Line follows in the Auditorium at 2:00 PM.
