The Story of Coeus
Coeus was one of the twelve Titans, a son of Uranus and Gaia. He was linked with intellect and inquiry, and with the axis of the heavens around which the stars turn. Some scholars think his name connects him to questioning and to the vault of the sky.
Coeus married his sister Phoebe, the Titan of prophecy and brightness. Their daughters were Leto, the mother of Apollo and Artemis, and Asteria, the mother of Hecate. Through them, Coeus became the grandfather of some of the most important gods in Greek religion.
Coeus was imprisoned in Tartarus with the other Titans after their defeat. He had no known cult, and the Greeks remembered him mainly through the brilliant line of gods that came from him.
