About AthensWas Design Hotel
AthensWas is at 5 Dionysiou Areopagitou, on the pedestrian street that runs below the Acropolis, between Plaka and the modern city centre. The Acropolis Museum and Akropoli metro station are about three minutes away on foot, and the cafes, bars and tavernas of Koukaki are a short walk. Interiors take their cue from the early 1960s, with Greek marble from around the country, Greek walnut wood and Italian designer furniture and fabrics. The concierge can arrange guided tours of the city, day trips outside Athens and car rental, and babysitting is available on request.
Rooms and suites
All rooms have marble bathrooms, a queen-size bed, a mini fridge with coffee and tea and a work table. Classic Rooms (28 sq m) have a balcony over the hotel's patio and room for a baby cot. Deluxe Rooms (32 sq m), with Nespresso machines and housekeeping twice a day, have a balcony over the plane trees of Dionysiou Areopagitou, big enough for a private dinner outside. The Superior Deluxe Suite (32 sq m) has a balcony with views of Lycabettus Hill and a partial view of the Acropolis.
For more space, the Residence Suite (40 sq m) sits at the front of the building with a sitting area and a veranda over the street, and the AthensWas Suite (40 sq m) adds a veranda facing the Acropolis and room for a third guest on request. Families of four should look at the Executive Suite (55 sq m), with two bathrooms, a living room and a sofa bed. The Hellenic Suite (55 sq m) is for couples who want the view: it has a private bar and a 45 sq m veranda with sofas, sunbeds and a dining table looking at the Acropolis. The top floor Hellenic Grand Suite can be booked only directly with the hotel.
Rooftop dining and breakfast
Breakfast is served on the rooftop from 7am to 11am, with views of the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. It is à la carte and cooked to order, certified as a Greek Breakfast by the Hotel Chamber of Greece, and made with Greek ingredients, 95% of them organic. A basket of homemade bread, cakes and pies arrives first, followed by eggs, omelettes, Greek cheeses and pancakes, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free versions on request. You can also have it on your veranda.
In the evening, SENSE on the 7th floor serves modern Greek tasting menus from 6pm to midnight, with the Acropolis as the backdrop, a herb garden on the terrace and a semi-open kitchen. Reservations are required, the dress code is casual chic and it suits guests aged 12 and over. On the ground floor, MODERN serves sandwiches, salads, pizzas and Greek wines from 11am to 6pm, with tables indoors, on a patio and out on the pedestrian street. In-room dining runs from 7pm to 11pm, and a Technogym fitness room and in-room massages are available.
