About King George, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens
King George stands on Syntagma Square, the central square of Athens, facing the Hellenic Parliament. It opened in 1930 and is today part of Marriott's The Luxury Collection, alongside its neighbor, Hotel Grande Bretagne.
Inside, the mood is classic and elegant, with herringbone floors, Murano chandeliers and neoclassical moldings softened by contemporary touches. The marble lobby displays permanent and rotating works by Greek artists, giving the hotel a distinctly modern Greek character.
Tudor Hall and the rooftop views
Tudor Hall, on the seventh floor, is the hotel's signature restaurant and cocktail bar. It is recognized by the Michelin Guide and serves a contemporary take on Greek cuisine built around seasonal ingredients, with an extensive list of Greek and international wines.
The outdoor terrace looks across to the Acropolis and down over Syntagma Square, making it a favorite spot for sunset dinners. Breakfast for hotel guests is also served here, with the same views.
Rooms and the penthouse
Rooms and suites combine classic styling with modern comforts, and some suites look toward the Acropolis. The two-bedroom Penthouse Suite occupies the ninth floor and has a terrace with a private outdoor pool facing the ancient citadel.
Hotel guests can also use the rooftop and spa pools at Hotel Grande Bretagne next door.
Location and getting around
The address could hardly be more central. Syntagma metro station is on the square, and Plaka, Monastiraki, Thissio and the Ancient Agora are all within walking distance, as are the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum.
Voukourestiou Street, one of the city's best known shopping streets, is just around the corner.
