About Onyx Santorini Hotel & Suites

Onyx Hotel & Suites is a family-owned hotel in Karterados, a quiet village in the middle of Santorini, close to the island capital, Fira. It opened in June 2022 and is an officially classified three-star property with a relaxed, personal feel.

The design takes its cue from traditional Santorini architecture, pairing earthy natural materials with modern comforts. The idea is simple: a calm base away from the busiest streets, yet only a short drive from the shops, restaurants and evening life of Fira.

Rooms and suites

Rooms and suites range from 25 to 55 square meters. Every one has a king-size bed, a Smart TV, a minibar, a coffee and tea station, a private bathroom with a rain shower, and its own outdoor space. The suites add comfortable seating areas, and some come with an outdoor jacuzzi looking out toward the Aegean Sea.

Choices start with the Standard King Room on the pool level (25 square meters, for two guests). The Junior Suite (37 square meters, up to four guests) and the spacious Executive Suite (55 square meters, up to five guests) both add two sofa beds to the king bed, which makes them a good fit for families and small groups. There is also a Superior Room, a Luxury Suite and a Deluxe Suite, each with an outdoor hot tub, as well as a Lower Level Cave Room.

Pool and breakfast

The heart of the hotel is its modern infinity pool. You can lounge on sunbeds set right in the water or stretch out on a sun lounger in the shade of an umbrella. Early risers are in for a treat, since the upstairs balconies and the pool deck are lovely spots to watch the Santorini sunrise.

A continental breakfast is included and served each morning from 8:00 to 10:00. WiFi is free, and guests arriving by car get complimentary off-street parking.

Location and getting around

Fira is about 1.6 km away, a few minutes by car or a walk of roughly 15 to 20 minutes, and the famous caldera views at the edge of town are less than a kilometer from the hotel. Firostefani is about 2.5 km away and Skaros Rock in Imerovigli about 3.4 km. Closer to home, a café, a mini market, a grocery store, a laundromat and a small shopping plaza are all within walking distance.

The hotel is also close to the airport, local wineries and the black sand beaches of the island. Karterados Beach and Exo Gialos Beach are each about 2.2 km away, and Kamari Beach is roughly a 9 minute drive. Santo Wines is about 4 km from the hotel, the village of Pyrgos about 4.6 km, the Red Beach and the archaeological site at Akrotiri about 8 km, and Oia about 14 km.

For exploring, there is a rental service on site with cars, ATVs, scooters and buggies. If you prefer public transport, a bus stop is about 900 meters down the road and the front desk can share the timetable. Street parking is available in the village too.
