Top 10 Restaurants in Folegandros, Greece
Folegandros is one of the smallest and most unspoiled islands in the Cyclades, with a year-round population of fewer than a thousand people and a food culture built around things made by hand in the family kitchen rather than sourced through a supplier. The island has its own pasta, matsata, handmade and served with rabbit or rooster in a rich tomato sauce, that is as distinctive a regional dish as anything in Greece. The kalasouna is the island's cheese pie, made with a particular local cheese and baked in a wood oven. The karpouzenia is a sweet pie of watermelon, honey, and sesame that closes meals in a way that nothing else in the Cyclades does. Folegandros Chora, one of the most beautiful villages in Greece, sits above a cliff and has a series of interconnected squares whose taverna tables fill every evening from spring through autumn with visitors who found the island and cannot stop coming back. These are worth your time in any order.
Blue Cuisine
At the entrance to Chora with a courtyard garden setting and uninterrupted views of the Church of Theoskepasti, Blue Cuisine is the most ambitious and creative kitchen on the island and the place to treat yourself when the standard family taverna is not what the evening calls for. The bread is homemade, the dishes come with a genuine twist that reflects real culinary thought: shrimp donuts, cuttlefish risotto, goat with chickpea mash, and a white-chocolate panna cotta that closes the meal properly. The Folegandros salad, stuffed squid, briam, sardines, and moussaka all earn consistent praise from visitors who describe it as one of the best Greek food experiences of their trip, the smoked tuna lentil starter and cuttlefish mains are standouts, and the overall combination of a more sophisticated approach to Cycladic ingredients with the setting of the Chora entrance makes it the right choice for a special dinner on the island.
To Goupi
A small and cozy meze restaurant on a narrow street in the heart of Chora, with tables outside in the most lively little lane on the island, To Goupi is described as one of our favourite tavernas on the island, authentic and delicious food at fair prices by visitors who went twice during the same trip and came back for the warm fava and the delicious goat in lemon sauce specifically. The revithada, eggplants to goupi style, meatballs with potatoes, and black peas with octopus are all delicious according to a visitor who worked through the whole menu and found everything highly recommendable, so good they ate there three nights out of four. Friendly service, honest prices, and the genuine meze character of a Folegandros kitchen that takes its local dishes seriously without any pretension make it the most dependable evening option for anyone who wants the real island food experience in the most beautiful village setting.

The starters are amazing, the desserts are worth saving room for, the home wine is a really good choice, and the combination of super homemade food at moderate prices with a genuinely beautiful beach view makes it one of the most satisfying all-round lunch and dinner experiences on the island. Beautiful and the most tasty food on the island, huge portions, fresh ingredients from visitors who came back several times because it was truly tasty and authentic.

Above the port of Karavostasi with a terrace looking over the water, Dal Capo is a small and welcoming family restaurant that earns really good fish, simple but delicious, a local gem from visitors who loved the atmosphere and found the tuna steak, swordfish, and fried calamari served with fresh salad and local wine everything a harbour lunch should be. The zucchini croquettes are the right choice for a lighter meal, the veal in tomato sauce satisfies the meat eaters, and the overall combination of honest port-side cooking with genuine warmth from the family that runs it makes it the natural first or last meal on the island for anyone arriving or departing by ferry.
Tuk Tuk
A creative restaurant that earns sensual awakening at Tuk Tuk and the best dining experience in Folegandros by far from visitors who found it unexpected and genuinely impressive, with carpaccio, ceviche, and octopus bruschetta all delightful after an afternoon at the beach, and a kitchen that brings an inventive approach to Cycladic ingredients in a way that distinguishes it from the standard island taverna. The seafood pasta was my favourite but the local prawns and baked aubergine were also wonderful from a visitor who worked through the menu and found the creative execution consistently satisfying.
Eirini's, Ano Meria
Part grocery store, part taverna, and entirely its own thing in the mountain village of Ano Meria at the far end of the island from Chora, Eirini's is described by Fodor's as feeling like dining in somebody's living room and by the island's community guides as the place for matsata with kalasouna and zucchini balls alongside local wine in the most genuine village setting on Folegandros. The handmade matsata is authentic and the rabbit and chicken preparations that accompany it reflect recipes that have not changed because they do not need to. The kind of place that rewards the drive to the northern end of the island.
Pounta
A cafe and all-day breakfast spot in Chora with a beautiful calm courtyard setting that earns a gem in Folegandros and we went twice because the setting is beautiful and the service genuinely warm from visitors who cannot recommend it highly enough. The simple food is tasty across everything on the menu, the coffee is excellent, and the combination of a calm and beautiful atmosphere with attentive service and affordable prices makes it the most pleasant morning option on the island and a natural stop at any point in the day.
Agios Nikolaos Taverna, Agkali
A taverna literally on the beach at the cove of Agios Nikolaos, opposite Agkali, with tables at the water's edge and a kitchen focused on the fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes that the setting demands, Agios Nikolaos earns we ate here after hiking to this beach from Chora and it was exactly what we hoped for from visitors who found the combination of an honest beach kitchen with a genuinely beautiful and accessible cove everything a Cycladic beach lunch should be. The feta cheese with honey is the recommended starter, the lobster pasta is outstanding from those who ordered it, the sea bream is caught that day and cooked to perfection, and the overall character of eating at the water's edge on an island this small and this beautiful gives it a simplicity and pleasure that the Chora restaurants cannot replicate.
Conclusion
Folegandros is an island where the food culture has been shaped by isolation, tradition, and the particular pleasure of a small community that feeds itself well. The matsata is handmade because it always has been. The kalasouna cheese pie is made with local cheese because there is no reason to use anything else. The beach tavernas serve what came off the boats that morning because that is what the water in front of them provides. The Chora squares fill every evening because they are among the most beautiful places in the Cyclades to sit outside at night with a glass of wine. None of that has changed because visitors found the island. The best argument for Folegandros is that it does not need to perform.
