How Many Days Should I Spend in Chalkidiki?

Chalkidiki asks for five to seven days, enough to give each of its three peninsulas a real day or two rather than rushing between them.

Chalkidiki covers well over two full days on Kassandra, the westernmost and most developed of the three peninsulas. Long sandy beaches and resort towns like Kallithea and Pefkochori give families an easy base, and a full round of the peninsula by car, stopping at coves along the way, fills a second day without repeating a stop.

A third and fourth day belong to Sithonia, wilder and less built up than Kassandra. Beaches like Kavourotrypes and the Vourvourou lagoon rank among the best in mainland Greece, and villages like Nikiti and Neos Marmaras keep a slower pace with fishing harbors and family-run tavernas rather than beach clubs.

A fifth day suits boat trips from Ouranoupolis toward the Athos peninsula, where views of the autonomous monastic republic's twenty monasteries are possible from the water even without the permit required to set foot on land, and the ruins of ancient Stagira, birthplace of Aristotle, sit close enough for a stop on the same day.

A sixth or seventh day works well for the Petralona Cave, one of Greece's most significant paleontological sites, or for the island of Ammouliani, reachable by a short ferry, giving a longer stay room to slow down without running out of new places to see.
