How Many Days Should I Spend on Donoussa?

Donousa asks for three to four days, enough to walk its trails, work through its beaches, and see all three of its small villages without rushing between them.

Donousa covers well over a first day. Stavros, the main village and port, holds everything most visitors need, cafes, a handful of tavernas, and a starting point for the walking trails that connect the island's coastline. Kedros Beach, a ten minute walk from the port, gives an easy introduction with soft sand and calm water close to town.

A second day suits the island's more remote beaches. Livadi, reachable by a demanding hike of around ninety minutes or a shorter boat ride, holds a raw, undeveloped stretch of coast, and Fykio, tucked off the same path, offers real seclusion for anyone willing to take the turn down to it. Trypiti and Kalotaritissa round out the coastline for travelers wanting a full day spent moving between coves.

A third day belongs to the island's other villages. Mersini and Kalotaritissa, both small and quiet, keep traditional architecture and a pace shaped entirely by residents rather than visitors, and the trail to the Monastery of Panagia gives a moderately challenging hike that ends with a wide view over the surrounding sea.

Donousa has no airport, and most travelers connect through Naxos or Amorgos by ferry, so a fourth day works well as a buffer around those connections or as extra time to simply repeat a favorite beach.

Two days cover Stavros and Kedros Beach comfortably, three adds the remote coves and a second village, and four lets the monastery trail and a slower morning or two settle into the trip properly. Even a short two-night stay leaves a real sense of the island's trails and coastline, and Donousa's small size means the extra days go toward depth rather than distance.
